Question by Dee: How to care for knockout roses in the winter?
I live in North Carolina and of course it’s winter and we have some red knockout roses already planted from this spring still in the ground. I’m just curious if there’s anything that we should do with them. Should we cut them down some, pull them out of the ground or just leave them. They grew so pretty and thick this summer and I want to make sure that they’ll do it again. We don’t water them at all anymore. Thanks!

I leave mine alone and they seem to do well. In the spring, after there is new growth, you can trim back any branches that are obviously dead. Knockout roses are really easy to care for, which is why they are the roses I grow.
I do mulch them pretty well, but I don’t pile it up. The biggest problem is keeping the deer from gnawing on them, but this is mostly a problem with the flowers.
