Question by crystal: How should I care for my old rose bush?
I moved into a new home in October. I pruned the three rose bushes at my home the best I could. They were producing just a couple of roses on each bush. They are starting to bloom again, but the dirt underneath them is not “soil like.” It is hard and dry. The people living here before me did not take care of them and I have not watered them. I would really like to see them bloom and start taking proper care of them. Should I remove them from the flower bed and add new soil? Should I just soak the ground good one time? Should I add mulch after soil? Please help!

In all my experience with having to take care of my family’s rose bushes i found that digging them up will only lead to having a few years of no flowers. if you want them to bloom then you might need to prune them and start watering the soil. add some mulch on top so that they will retain some of the water if it gets to hot, if you think that they will need new soil if you dig them up then you should ad some water retaining gel to the soil. If you don’t dig them up just prune them and water, make sure to water all year to help them establish. hope this helps.
