Using Rubbermaid containers and the like for container gardening?

We have about 15 of these square and round containers around and they are all light colored and about 2 feet deep . We are not using them and are going to plant a garden and make container gardens . Can the Rubbermaid containers be used for planting ? Big ceramic and clay pots are very expensive and they black water and feeding containers used for livestock are very expensive . Any suggestions.

You can use them, just be sure to drill drainage holes in the bottom of each one(in multiple places) for water to be able to drain out.
